Year 6

Welcome to Eagles, Falcons & Hawks

Welcome back! We hope you had a fantastic Easter holiday.

Our topic this term is Natural Disasters. Within this topic, we will be learning about the Geography of the world and the differences between Natural and Human disasters. We will get to research several case studies of natural disasters.  As part of our English, we will be writing news reports and informative texts about these, and reading a new text called ‘Darwin’s Dragons’ which links to our Science work. We will be doing some narrative writing around this text. We will continue to focus on formal grammar terms and recapping all the children’s grammar, punctuation and spelling (GPS) knowledge in readiness for our end of term assessments.

Maths this term will start with recapping concepts that we’ve worked on all year, moving on to ratio and proportion and finding the average. We will continue to look into shapes, coordinates and fractions, consolidating our knowledge in these areas. As always, we are focusing on problem-solving and reasoning within all of our Maths topics.

In Science, we will be looking at Evolution before moving to child led investigations.

Please continue to use our class email addresses during this time when we are unable to meet face to face (falconsclass@westfield.surrey.sch.uk; hawksclass@westfield.surrey.sch.uk; eaglesclass@westfield.surrey.sch.uk).
