Year 4

Welcome to Kingfishers and Woodpeckers

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to the Spring Term after a fun-filled Christmas! We hope you have all had a great first term and winter break and are well-rested and ready for an exciting term. This term, the Year 4 topic is “What a Wonderful World”.

It is hard to believe that over this coming term, the days will start to get lighter as we head towards the summer term.

We have lots of exciting learning this term such as: Book Week, writing persuasive letters about environmental matters, exploring and creating maps of our local area and the Delight workshops which will be themed ‘Rainforest Retreat’.

As before, it is vital that all children are supported to complete their reading and spellings daily at home. Most children know their login and password (same password for all) for their online resources such as TTRockstars, Bug Club, Active Learn (Maths and Reading activities) and Oxford Owls. These websites can be used to practice and consolidate children’s skills across the curriculum but especially with using and applying their Maths knowledge. If the children need reminding of their password, please do not hesitate to contact the class teacher using the class emails.

In Maths, we will continue to develop and secure our knowledge of fractions; bar charts; reading, writing and converting time between 12 hour and 24 hour on a digital clock, and decimals. We will be continuing to prepare the children for the Year 4 Multiplication Test which will be happening later in the year. Please continue to practice Times Tables up to 12 as much as you can in the week to help children to become more confident.

In Science, we will be looking at animals, including humans- learning all about the human body and how to live a healthy lifestyle. We will also be learning about living things, identifying and naming a variety of living things in our local and wider environment; recognising that environments can change and that this can sometimes pose dangers to living things.

As you can see, it’s a busy, interesting term with lots of fun!

Thank you for all your support.

Miss Townson and Miss Chaplin.

This Multiplication Tables Check practice test gives a good example of the real test at the end of year 4. The MTC trial results can be downloaded and printed at the end of the test.
