Year 6
Welcome back!
Welcome to the New Year!
We hope you have all had a wonderful first term and an enjoyable Christmas break. We look forward to welcoming the children back, feeling refreshed and ready for an exciting spring term ahead.
This term, our topic is A Grecian Legacy, where we will explore life in Ancient Greece and examine the impact it has had on the modern world. Our main class text will be Who Let the Gods Out, which will form the basis of a range of exciting and engaging cross-curricular activities.
In Science, the children will be learning about the human body systems, nutrition, and how we grow and change. In Art and Design Technology, pupils will be sketching Greek masks and designing and constructing a playground.
We will continue to prepare the children for the end-of-year assessments (SATs), including a mock SATs week in January. Further details will be shared closer to the time. To support their learning, children should continue to read daily (ensuring retrieval and inference questions are asked in relation to the text) and continue to practise their spellings each evening. Homework will be set every Monday on Seesaw – where all the links have direct reference to what we cover in class.
Throughout the year, class texts are carefully chosen to encourage thoughtful discussion around the protected characteristics. At Westfield, we strive to create a safe and supportive environment where children feel confident to share their opinions and ask questions.
Thank you for your continued support.
You can contact us at any time with questions or concerns:

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your children a happy and successful second term in Year 6.
Thank you,
The Year 6 Team
