Welcome to Bumblebees and Butterflies

Welcome to the Autumn Term and the beginning of your child's exciting journey at Westfield Primary School! We hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to a fantastic first year with us.

This term our topics are Let's Get to Know Each Other and Zoom, Zoom!

We will begin by getting to know one another, learning all about ourselves, our families, our pets and our favourite toys. We will also explore the important roles of people who help us in our community, including firefighters, police officers, teachers, doctors and vets.

After half term, we'll be setting off on an exciting vehicle adventure! The children will discover different types of transport from the past and present, before blasting off into space to learn about rockets and space travel.

Throughout the term, the children will become familiar with our Read Write Inc. phonics programme. Before long, they will begin bringing home sounds, words and books to practise. Reading with your child every day, even for just a few minutes, will make a huge difference to their confidence and help them develop their blending, segmenting and early reading skills.

In Maths, we will spend much of the term exploring numbers to 5. You can support your child at home by helping them to recognise, count, order and use these numbers in everyday activities, such as counting toys, snacks or steps. This regular practice will help to embed their understanding.
