We hope you have a lovely summer break.

Heat Warning up date
We have already signposted you to our Sun Safety Policy found on our website, however some parents have expressed a wish to keep their child(ren) at home as they are concerned about the heat warning, even though the school is open as normal. Should you decide to do this, we understand and will support this from an attendance perspective. However please do report their absence on Study Bugs as usual. The link to Study Bugs is on the front page of the website.
For those who are sending children in as normal, just a reminder that as the beginning of the week looks set to be very hot, the children may wear their own clothes or school summer uniform or PE kit to school on Monday and Tuesday. The best clothing to wear is loose, light-coloured clothing, shoulders should be covered. Please also make sure your child wears a named hat to school (the best is one with a wide brim), that you send in a bottle of water with your child and sun cream is put on your children before they come to school. If they need to re-apply in the school day, please send it in with it named and ensure they are able to reapply it on their own.
As always if the situation changes or we have to take any further action, we will contact you.
Year 5 took part in an exciting Viking day on Friday 22nd April. We made and ate Viking bread, decorated and inscribed clay coins with Viking runes, created cardboard swords and shields and some children built paper long boats.
The children also enjoyed an immersive Viking story using the press play headsets, played Capture the flag games on the field to simulate an invasion and took part in a Fire pit experience with toasted marshmallows, yum!
As part of our farm topic we were lucky enough to have some eggs delivered to school for us to learn about the life cycle of a chicken.
When the eggs first arrived we kept them warm in an incubator. After only a few days the first chicks began to hatch . It was amazing to watch.
Once the chicks had become fluffy and a bit stronger, the children in each class were able to have a go at holding them. We loved feeling their soft feathers. The children loved watching the chicks learn to move and flap their wings.
The last week of the Spring term is always our ‘Well-being themed week’. We follow the theme of the 5 Ways to Well-being, and also kindness!
We all had such a great week and there were so many fun and fabulous activities going on! We began the week with a dress up day (favourite colours), there were active workshops - archery and team building (led by Surrey Outdoor Learning), Easter egg hunts, an art ‘Brush Party’, compliment cards, 5 ways to well-being posters, decorating biscuits and so much more!
The Summer Term starts on Tuesday 19th April.
We all had a great week celebrating, learning about, raising the profile of and reducing the stigma of mental health. We know it’s okay not to be okay and to ask for help. We also know that there are many things we can do to help ourselves and we learnt lots during this week.
The children took part in many varied activities, for example, breathing techniques, making and using stress socks, creating jars of happiness, learning song and dance routines with positive messages (for example the power of yet, brave face etc), mindfulness colouring, making well-being dice, sewing and much more!
Last term, Westfield’s School Council committee worked extremely hard to revisit and recreate our rules, to be implemented across the entire school.
Through careful analysis of the school-wide survey responses, and detailed discussion, the School Council pupils produced ‘The Westfield Way’.
The idea being that these four simple, memorable ways to behave in school encompass what is most important here at Westfield:
Our Christmas celebrations included Christmas assemblies for all classes, Snow White Pantomime and Santa visited all classes.
