Welcome to Woodpeckers

Dear Parents

A warm welcome back to everyone after chocolate-filled Easter! We hope that you had a lovely, restful holiday!

It is hard to believe that we are in our Summer term already! Over this coming term, we have lots of exciting learning and activities waiting including a trip to Winchester Science museum, an Owl visit to the school, sports day, Portals to the Past workshop (where children will be dressing up as Tudors), Science week and finally, both children and parents will get the chance to meet their new teacher in July. Please see the newsletter for dates.

As our Summer term is so busy, we still have lots of learning to master, therefore it is crucial that all children are to continue to complete their reading, times table and spellings daily at home, as well as their weekly Maths homework. Don’t forget that the school provides great and valuable online resources such as: TT Rockstars, Active Learn and Bug club. These websites can be used to practise and consolidate children’s skills across the curriculum and are especially useful with inference skills during their guided reading. All children have their individual logins and password and these can be found in their reading diaries!

We begin the term by visiting the Winchester Science Museum, where children will have a fantastic opportunity to explore and learn about all the equipment followed by a workshop led by the centre.

This term our History Topic is “Time Travelling with the Tudors!” To support our learning in June, we will be having a Portals to the Past workshop in school. We will also be looking at famous people’s portraits within our Art/D.T lessons.

In Science, our focus will be on comparing and grouping together materials whether they are solids, liquids or gases. Then, we will be observing how materials change when heated or cooled, and measure/research the temperature at which this happens in degrees Celsius.

As you can see, it’s a busy, fun-filled term that will encourage learning for all the children.

The Year 4 staff look forward to working with you this academic year. If you have any questions, concerns or worries about anything do not hesitate to contact us.
