Welcome to Penguins
Welcome back! I hope you all had an exciting Easter holiday!
Just like our Spring term, our Summer term is going to be extremely busy. We still have lots of learning still to master, so it is vital that all the children are supported to complete their reading, times table and spellings daily at home. Not only are these skills important to learn but will coincide with their weekly maths and English homework. Stickers in the children’s homework diaries remind them of their logins and password for valuable online resources such as: TT Rockstars, Active Learn and Bug club. These websites can be used to practise and consolidate children’s skills across the curriculum but especially with using inference skills during their guided reading.
Our History topic this term is all about the Invasion of the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. We will also be looking at Danegeld and Edward the Confessor. Within our art/D.T lessons, we will be looking to design and make either a longship or longhouse.
In Science, we will be looking at properties and changes in materials where we will be encouraging child-led investigations that link to our topic. Much of the learning will revolve around reversible and irreversible changes and linking these ideas to solids, liquids and gasses.
This term will also see year 5 visit Bentley Copse as part of the outdoor adventurous activity PE curriculum. Whilst on site the children will get participate in some fantastic activities such as climbing, karting, archery, and many more!
In addition, there are lots of activities and workshops planned for year 5. We have Sports Day straight after May half term; we are participating in a Viking longboat workshop; we have Science week planned for the last week of June and finally the children and parents will get a chance to meet their new teacher in July. Please see the newsletter for dates.
I look forward to continue to work with you and your children during this academic year. If you have any concerns or worries about anything at all, please come and chat to me, so that we can work together to resolve the problem.
Wishing you and your children a great last term in Year 5!
