Welcome to Kingfishers
We hope you and your families are staying safe during these very challenging and unprecedented times.
It is hard to believe that we are already in our Summer term! Where are the days going?
Over this coming term, we have lots of exciting curriculum content to cover.
From a historical perspective we will be looking to discover more about the lives of the Romans (did you know that the Romans too had to deal with the ravages of a pandemic from about AD249 to 262? This was called the Plague of Cyprian ….but you know what they too got through it by sticking together). The material we will be covering will encompass such topics as Roman settlements, Roman Gods or deities, Roman road networks and systems, Boudicca and Hadrian’s wall, to name a few. There will be many cross-curricular links within these themes and we will be providing you all with lots of ideas for projects – which will really make this subject come to life!
In Science, our focus will be on comparing and grouping together materials whether they are solids, liquids or gases. Then, we will be observing how materials change when heated or cooled, and measure/research the temperature at which this happens in degrees Celsius.
During this term, we still have plenty of learning to master. Therefore, it is advisable that all children are to continue to prioritise some English and Maths activities on a daily basis. Do not forget that the school provides great and valuable online resources such as TT RockStars, Abacus and Bug Club. These websites are useful to practise and consolidate children’s skills across the curriculum and are especially useful with inference skills during their guided reading.
We really do hope that life returns to some semblance of normal in the coming months, but until that time please stay safe and remember we are always here to help wherever we can.
The Year 4 staff look forward to seeing all again soon. If you have any questions, concerns or worries about anything do not hesitate to contact us on our class email accounts.
