Year 6

Welcome back! We hope you had a fantastic Easter holiday.

Our topic this term is All about Rivers. Within this topic, we will be learning about our local area, past and present and the geographical features of rivers (local and world-wide rivers). We will be focusing on studying rivers in geography. As part of our English, we will be writing news reports and informative texts, and reading a new text called ‘Journey to the River Sea’ which links to our topic ‘Rivers’. We will be doing some narrative writing around this text. We will continue to focus on formal grammar terms and recapping all the children’s grammar, punctuation and spelling (GPS) knowledge in readiness for SATs week and our end of year assessments.

Maths this term will start with recapping concepts that we’ve worked on all year, consolidating all knowledge related to reasoning and arithmetic style questioning. Fractions is an area that we will start off the term – it is imperative that these skills are practised to ensure fluency for their assessments. All of our learning will prepare the children for SATs and ensure all gaps to learning are plugged.

In Science, we will be looking at Evolution before moving to child led investigations, these will help the children prepare for our Science Fair towards the end of the term.

Please continue to use our class email addresses during this time when we are unable to meet face to face (falconsclass@westfield.surrey.sch.uk; hawksclass@westfield.surrey.sch.uk)
