Grasshopper butterfly release

Butterflies released in Grasshoppers

Over the last few weeks the Reception children have been watching the life cycle of a butterfly happen live in their classroom. They started as tiny thin caterpillars and then they became big fat caterpillars. They hung upside down and spun a cocoon (chrysalis) around themselves. After what seemed a very long wait, the butterflies finally emerged from their cocoons (chrysalis).  Today the children released the butterflies in the wild garden, ready for them to lay a new egg on a leaf and the cycle will begin again. Luckily one of the last ones to leave was happy to stick around for a few photos
