Governor's Award for Excellence in Writing

Winners announced!

This photo shows the three proud winners of Westfield Primary School's Governors Awards for Excellence in Writing: (L to R) Iolanthe (Key Stage 2 winner), Henry  (Early Years) and Alice  (Key Stage 1), with Chair of Governors, Sandie Sharp.

The Governors at Westfield introduced the award this year to encourage pupils to use the writing skills learnt in their literacy lessons to write a story or poem on the theme of 'My Secret Place'. Entries were judged on their creativity and originality, as well as handwriting, spelling and grammar. The winners each received a trophy and certificate as well as either a book token or a family game of tenpin bowling (kindly donated by Guildford Spectrum).

"Governors were delighted with the high standard of the entries", said Sandie Sharp, "I am very proud of the pupils at our school. Wouldn't it be exciting if a pupil from Westfield School could grow up to become the next J.K. Rowling or Roald Dahl?"
